Archiving Animation with Home Media - Nickelodeon Physical Home Media Releases - Part Four

Continuing our analysis of Nicktoon availability on home media, today we’ll check out Nickelodeon's first CGI show which was also the first time a theatrical movie that would spin-off into its own series. A pattern that would prove successful enough to repeat in the future. Let’s jump right in.

The Canadian series, ReBoot (1994), is considered to be the first fully CGI television broadcasted show (Veggie Tales (1993) had been direct to VHS prior). In 2001 it had just wrapped its fourth and final season when the theatrically released Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius hit theatres. The film would see a release on VHS and DVD. A year after the film’s debut, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius (2002) began its first of three seasons making it Nickelodeon’s first CGI series. The show would be released in a haphazard mix of episode compilations on VHS and DVD as well as on Amazon’s manufacture-on-demand with “Best of Season...”  episode compilations also on DVD. This shotgun approach to episode releases, along with no complete series release, has meant 27 episodes have remained unreleased.
