Archiving Animation with Home Media - Cartoon Network Physical Home Media Releases - Part Two

The absence of 2 Stupid Dogs on the previous Cartoon Network entry had me confused at first. Turns out it wasn’t on a bunch of lists of Cartoon Network originals because the show ran its original run on TBS. Subsequent re-airings occurred on Cartoon Network, which is when I caught it as a kid. During an interview with Animation World Network, Fred Seibert mentioned 2 Stupid Dogswas an unbelievably unsuccessful show. Early on, Cartoon Network, TBS and TNT had weird crossover promotions as Cartoon Network came into its own. The What a Cartoon! Show premiered on all three networks with Space Ghost as host. As far as today, among the toons we’ll check out, three cartoons spawned from What a Cartoon! Let’s do it...

Cow and Chicken (1999) ran for four seasons. Though a promotional VHS tape was released by Cartoon Network to promote their Cartoon Cartoon Fridays block, since it was not widely available, we won’t consider it for this project. That being said, two episodes were released, "Black Sheep of the Family" and "Child Star"as a bonus for completing specific requirements in Cartoon Network Racing on PlayStation 2. "Me 'an My Dog" was released on the Cartoon Network Christmas: Yuletide Follies episode compilation and "Cow with Four Eyes" was released on the Cartoon Network Halloween: 9 Creepy Cartoon Capers compilation DVD. No other episodes have been released.

I Am Weasel (1999) ran for a single season was originally a segment in Cow and Chicken, which was spun off into its own show. Though some sources list I Am Weasel as the fifth season of Cow and Chicken, the archived production blog lists I Am Weasel episodes as starting from episode one as opposed to continuing the episode count from Cow and Chicken. Even the production codes jump ahead 200 numbers (though season one and two of Cow and Chicken also jump ahead by 200). As such, for the sake of this project, I’ll consider it as a stand alone show. The episode "I Am Vampire" appears on the aforementioned Cartoon Network Halloween: 9 Creepy Cartoon Capers compilation DVD, "The Power of Odor" on the sequel DVD, Cartoon Network Halloween 2: Grossest Halloween Ever, "I.R.'s 1st Bike" and "Dessert Island" was released on the Cartoon Network Christmas: Yuletide Follies, and "Happy Baboon Holidays" on the DVD sequel Cartoon Network: Christmas Rocks. Lastly, the episodes "Enemy Camp" and "My Friend, The Smart Banana" were released as a bonus for the PS2 release of Cartoon Network Racers. No other releases have been released.

The Powerpuff Girls (1998) ran for six seasons and a theatrical move. The most successful show to come from the What A Cartoon! project, the series has seen many episode compilations released on VHS and DVD. In addition, The Powerpuff Girls has seen every season released on a single 10th Anniversary Collection set, though it is out of print and yields high value in the second-hand market. The Powerpuff Girls Movie was released on VHS and DVD.

Ed, Edd n Eddy
(1999) ran for six seasons and a television film finale. The first two seasons saw season set DVDs released. Season 3’s “Don't Rain on My Ed” was released on the third Halloween theme episode compilation, Cartoon Network Halloween 3: Sweet Sweet Fear. The special "Ed, Edd n Eddy's Jingle Jingle Jangle" was released on Cartoon Network: Christmas Rocks. In addition, two episode compilations specifically focused on Ed, Edd n Eddy were released. The first volume contains episodes from season one and two, but the second volume, Fools' Par-Ed-ise, contains the episode "If It Smells Like an Ed" from season three and the episodes, "Take This Ed and Shove It", "One Size Fits Ed", "A Case of Ed", and "Here's Mud in Your Ed" from season four. Aside, a 30-minute long behind the scenes documentary about the series was released on the PlayStation 2, GameCube, original XBox and PC releases of Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures video game. No other releases have been released.
