Archiving Animation with Home Media - The Disney Channel Physical Home Media Releases - Part Four

The modern Disney Channel started creating original animation more than ten years after Nickelodeon started. However, the amount of series and duration of said series couldn’t be more different from one another. While a deeper analysis remains at the end of this entire project, it has been fascinating to see the sheer amount of entertainment that has never been released for home media coming from the Mouse’s channel. Disney has always operated on revenue from their theme parks more than their entertainment branch, but it is really interesting to see that there has not been any attempt to outsource the grunt work of making DVD or BluRays of their animated properties. Regardless, let’s get to today's final eight series...

Milo Murphy's Law (2016) ran for two seasons. Though no official cancellation has been announced, creator Dan Povenmire has stated that unless viewership skyrockets with its debut on Disney+, a third season is unlikely. No physical home releases have been released.

Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure (2017) ran for three seasons. Based on the film, Tangled (2010), and premiering with a direct-to-tv movie, Tangled: Before Ever After (2017), only the aforementioned movie and Season 1 Episode 16 special, “Queen For a Day”, has been released on DVD.

Star Wars Resistance (2018) ran for two seasons. After Disney bought LucasFilm for $4 billion dollars, Star War’s omnipresence on Disney would be an inevitability. Resistance is Disney’s second series based on the IP and the first to be on the Disney Channel. The first season was released on DVD in August of 2019. The second season has not yet seen a home release, but with the show having wrapped in January it is possible that a future release could change that.
